He is certified as a Criminal Law Specialist by the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization.

Mr. Ross earned his license to practice law in Arizona in 1976. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Ross is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice.

Mr. Ross has received an “AV” peer review rating from Martindale Hubbell, the national directory of attorneys. This is the highest possible rating an attorney can receive, indicating preeminent legal ability and the utmost ethical standards. Mr. Ross has also been named a Southwest Super Lawyer numerous times, a distinction reserved for the top five percent of attorneys in the state.

Prior to entering private practice in 1984, Mr. Ross served as a felony prosecutor in the Pima County Attorney’s Office in Tucson and in the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office in Phoenix. We work diligently with you to develop and implement a strategy that is tailored to address the charges against you, conduct a thorough investigation, and provide the personalized support you deserve. DUI and Vehicular Crimes

We devote a substantial portion of our practice to defending clients against charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and other vehicular crimes. To learn more, visit the DUI and Vehicular Crimes page.

Violent Crimes

The felony offenses of assault, homicide, robbery, or other violent crimes carry the possibility of serious penalties, including lengthy mandatory prison sentences, and, in the case of First Degree Murder, the possibility of the death penalty. A conviction for any violent crime may also create a “ripple effect,” causing other legal problems relating to employment, immigration, and family law matters.

Drug Crimes

Arizona drug offenses, found at Chapter 34, Title 13 of the Arizona Revised Statues, include the unlawful possession, use, production, manufacture, transportation, and sale of a number of controlled substances, such as marijuana, methamphetamines, cocaine, heroin, and prescription drugs. Penalties for a drug conviction vary, depending on the seriousness of the crime and whether it is a state or federal prosecution. Both federal law and Arizona law provide for mandatory minimum sentences that can result in long prison terms for relatively minor drug crimes. The U.S. Sentencing Commission has an extensive and complex manual that is used to determine the basic sentencing calculations for a federal offense. Arizona sentencing provisions can be found in the Arizona Sentencing Chart.

Sex Crimes

Sex offenses in Arizona, found at Chapter 14, Title 13 of the Arizona Revised Statues, include sexual assault, sexual conduct with a minor, sexual abuse, child molestation, and others. All sex offenses carry serious penalties, including the potential for mandatory registration as a sex offender. Even without a conviction, the mere investigation or charge of a sex crime yields negative consequences for your career and personal life.

White Collar Crimes

In recent years, white collar crimes have gained public attention around the country. A conviction for theft, business or commercial fraud, embezzlement, or any white collar crime can lead to serious penalties and non-legal consequences. Depending on the charge, sentences may include significant fines and prison time. A conviction for any crime involving dishonesty can also affect your reputation and employment prospects.

Grand Jury Investigations

It is very common for state and federal prosecutors to use their powers and those of the grand jury to conduct criminal investigations. Mr. Ross represents individuals who may be either the “target” of such an investigation, the “subject” of the investigation, or a “witness” concerning the investigation. There are important legal distinctions and strategies among these three categories. Having an attorney represent you during the course of the investigation can be critical in terms of the outcome of that process and what, if any, formal charges are filed or not.

Probation Violations

It is not uncommon for individuals placed on felony probation in either state or federal court to find themselves the subject of probation revocation proceedings. This may be either because they have been charged with or committed a new criminal offense or because they have allegedly violated a “technical” term of their probation regarding compliance with orders or directives from the probation officer. These probation revocation proceedings carry serious consequences, including the very real possibility of remaining in custody throughout the legal proceedings, having your probation revoked, and being sentenced to prison.
